"Showboat" is a better book, in my opinion. The author does state Kobe was a pain in the arse too, but he also doesn't just trash Kobe. He also covers the rape allegations, but in more neutral terms. This guy just trashes Kobe, through and through. Having said that the author that wrote " Showboat" actually use to interview Kobe, when he first joined NBA so therefore he had a better perception of him.

This has been common knowledge for almost 2 decades now, but Shaq isn’t perfect either. After all, if he would’ve got his butt in the gym during the off-season instead of sippin pina coladas they would’ve won 8 rings together

Kobe was very insecure in his younger days that's why he was trying to act tough around his teammates. Probably got bullied in school or something then as he got older didn't want nobody taking advantage of him no more, trying to earn that respect, I've known guys like Kobe.

Kobe spoke about this in that 1-on-1 interview with Shaq a couple of years ago. He said when he was growing up in Italy, he had to deal with exactly that. Being treated like an outcast because he was a foreigner and couldn't speak the language. So he put all his energy into basketball as a way of getting even with the kids who picked on him.

The book really painted Kobe in a bad light. It was almost overly biased against him from my point of view. The book did no favors to Kobe's legacy. Pearlman did not give Kobe ANY redeeming qualities at all. My views on Kobe has definitely been tainted after reading the book. As a Laker fan, I knew he was selfish early, but some of the things he did, he was just not a good person. I always thought Kobe and MJ's mentalities were similar, but they're actually quite different now that I look at it. It's unfortunate, but Kobe will always be a Laker, and he'll always be loved by the fans.
Dresta tha Gangsta
Dresta tha Gangsta 26 kun oldin
You said yourself. This book was overly biased against Kobe so I don't understand why you would put that much stock into what this guy has to say. Even Shaq himself has admitted his many faults in the beef as well as accused Phil Jackson of manufacturing alot of issues between the two of them as well. No Kobe was not perfect, but Jeff Pearlman is known as a hack writer who likes to push his own agenda.

In Kobe defense as a Lebron fan cuz Kobe fans are obsessed with Lebron so I defend him. Kobe was a superior player to Jordan Kobe never needed a pippen not only Kobe was a scorer for the lakers he was there best playmaker. With Shaq Kobe basically played pg and Sg. Shaq is petty and childish Kobe was right to want to trade Shaq because was out of shape. Kobe wanted his own legacy didn’t want to be Scottie Pippen he wanted to be the greatest in order to prove that he had to win without Shaq and Kobe did 2 championships. Kobe is one of the top 10 greatest players ever anyone in the top 10 can claim to be goat. Kobe had one of the most amazing career in nba history is the Lakers top 2 player of all time hard to beat out Magic because he made showtime but Kobe no doubt a goat
rxtsec1
rxtsec1 24 kun oldin
Also one thing I agree with kobe about even though had those 2 stayed together they would have atleast 6 chips if not more. Basically he said People never chastised pippen saying he could never win without MJ cause he wasn't that great. However kobe was so great they use to say he couldn't win without shaq & would have used it against him had he not so I understand why he wanted to do it by himself even though I wish they stayed together
rxtsec1
rxtsec1 24 kun oldin
Not sure I agree with the shaq disses. Both guys were culpable for what happened even though shaq was the older guy so more blame. That said I have Bron #2 kobe #7 & shaq #8 in my top 10

One Lyfe Music when I say Kobe never needed a Pippen meaning Jordan didn’t have to run the offense and guard the best player where Kobe had to score and run the offense. If Shaq played with Jordan he wouldn’t be the best player either smartest option is giving Shaq the ball more not Jordan shooting fade-aways. Pippen benefits Jordan game he makes Jordan better. Shaq takes away from Kobe game. Shaq best fit would be a Lebron or Magic type player. So the fact Kobe had to guard the best guard run the offense and score shows he was a better player than Jordan period. When Jordan ran the offense he was mr first round Kobe can do more better passer defender shooter scorer shooter ball handler and played waaaaaayyyyyyyy better competition it’s just a fact. Please let Kobe play against thunder dan Jeff hornacek Bryon Scott Terry teagle Hersey Hawkins Kobe would avg 60
One Lyfe Music
One Lyfe Music 27 kun oldin
@Nice2787 No. First of all, you saying Kobe never needed a Pippen, when he was playing with Shaq, who was inarguably a better player for those 3 rings, then he had Gasol. Then just look at their efficiency. Jordan shot right around 50% for his entire career when Kobe never averaged above 47%. Kobe also never won DPOY, and MJ has 8 more scoring titles (lol). Kobe's a top 10 player but isn't even close to MJ. He's a better bad shot maker, that's it

First off the comments being made about Kobe keeping to himself and not wanting to associate with his teammates are really unfair. We are talking about a 17 year old kid thrown into a group of adults and on his own for the first real time in his life. Most teen kids around this age, it's like pulling eye teeth to get them to communicate or interact with adults. With his Dad being an NBA player and a coach, I'm sure he was forewarned about the troubles he could get into hanging around older NBA players and also the type of teasing and hazing that might occur. We are talking about a time when most High school stars that jumped to the pros generally were unsuccessful. There was very little preparation and planning assistance for high schoolers making the jump to the pros. I'm sure his Dad taught him a lot but not everything and his dad wouldn't be able to relate to being a 17year old NBA rising phenom.
Bryian Sones
Bryian Sones 27 kun oldin
@catonic Bruh, he was a kid. That's what you must deal with when you draft a kid. He needed time mature and he did! He had 5 rings to show for and a good father and also what he did for tons of players around the league. As for Phil wanting him gone, Phil had no patience for young players,. Look how long Bynum sat the bench. Again another high schooler Phil had no patience for. And Phil wanting him gone so badly that he came back to win two tittles with him. Lol Yeah Phil knew whats up and what Kobe was about!
